Oscar voting is extended for online transition

Concerns about a transition to online balloting have prompted the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences to extend Oscar nominations voting by a day.

An academy spokesman announced late Monday that the deadline for members to vote for Oscar nominations had been moved one day to Friday at 5 p.m.Concerns over the new online voting procedure have forced the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences to extend Oscar voting.
This is the first year the academy has provided online voting for the membership.
"By extending the voting deadline we are providing every opportunity available to make the transition to online balloting as smooth as possible," Ric Robertson, the academy's chief operating officer, said in a statement Monday. "We're grateful to our global membership for joining us in this process."
The new voting system has been the source of frustration, most recently from documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock, who tweeted Dec. 28 that "the password they sent didn't work for my login -- and they couldn't email me a new login, only snail mail."
The 85th Academy Awards nominations will be announced live Jan. 10.
